I don’t know about you, but I’m a list girl. I’m stocked on notepads and always have one in my purse running around with me [currently finishing the last of this set]. Perhaps you’re a little like me and can’t stop thinking about what’s next on the list, but after reading [yes, another plug for] Bittersweet by Shauna Niequist, I’ve forced myself to take a good sit down and make another sort of list: the Things I Don’t Do list.
This list is a lot slower and infinitely harder to make than your grocery or bucket list, but indeed I have done it and plan to add to it as life progresses. As many things as there are to get done in a day or in a lifetime, there’s got to be some things we say no to – we have to have a limit and admit it.
Along with Shauna’s insistence on not spending time with people who routinely belittle her or speak negatively about others, I’ve added a few of my own:
I don’t blow dry my hair unless it’s winter or a special occasion. To me, it’s not worth the time or trouble since I like driving with the windows down anyhow. I realize I’m lucky to be me cause I know many people couldn’t go without this one.
I don’t forget the pretty. I’m a believer that love is in the details and though life may not look like a styled shoot, a little touch of somethin’ somethin’ can go a long way.
